Inspiration - Michele Maule

Website of Michele Maule: Paintings, Prints, Drawings and Books

hey Colin - check out this website - Michele posted a comment on your post about Cranbrook - so I checked out her website - very cool work. I can't post an image because the site is done in flash - but I bet if I asked her she wouldn't mind...

Good Article Today NYT Magazine

2 comments:
The NY Times Magazine had an interesting article/cirtique about Flickr.
You can see it here . I initially thought this was an article discussing how Flickr is a unique new forum for artists, particularly photographers, to share their work and offer critiques. On further review, this is an article by a self-important elitist trying to make artists who show their work online seem insignificant to artists that show in traditional galleries.

I have never really liked rankings, but it is nice that a school in our own backyard has gotten some recognition. Cranbrook was ranked in the top five.

Top Five Etsy Shops of the Week

4 comments:
The following are the best shops on Etsy that I found this week. I was particularly facinated by the strong illustrators on Etsy, so that was the theme that developed---check these shops out and let me know what you think

yumiyumi.etsy.com

Simply beautiful, decorative illustrations with watercolor, pencil, and ink, and then "digitally tweaked." Very creative use of materials.

arabbitgirl.etsy.com

The work in this shop is very well executed and conjures up feelings of lost, but treasured, childhood memories--these are digital collages, so interesting use of modern materials

GumballGrenade.etsy.com

This shop showcases stylized, whimsical illustrations. There is a stylized, very linier, character that appears to be in his pajamas and exploring (holding a star, riding a paper airplane)...a lot of fun

barkingbirdart.etsy.com

This shop, likewise, has stylized, whimsical illustrations. These illustrations remind me of illustrations done with cut paper (very deliberate shapes and colors). Cute images of owls eating ice cream or birds spotting UFOs

amberalexander.etsy.com

Very well executed watercolor illustrations of animals (in hats or taking care of babies, and such)

All of these shops also have great names!

Inspiration of the Day: Lia Halloran

1 comment:

I find Lia Halloran's work very interesting. I think her work is a nice blend of realism and futurism. In particular her work reminds me of Umberto Boccioni's sculputure "Unique Forms of Continuity in Space." It also reminds me of my art professor Dick Depeaux's work (both are inspired by physics).

PIXNIT
Pixnit is a graffiti artist in Boston. Her work is very decrotive, and she is having a show in town (Boston) at the Judi Rotenberg gallery opening May 3 (so I will check it out).

Sternlab.
interesting concept - from website: "Our interactions with personal electronic devices provoke a broad range of emotional states from frustration to confusion to feverish obsession. Increasingly, these devices mediate our everyday work activities, our social network development and our personal communications. In this paper, we propose a participatory installation that aims to bring critical awareness and consideration to the complex relationship between people and their technological artifacts. These 'Body-Technology Interfaces,' (BTIs) in the form of hand-knitted custom wrappers for personal electronic devices, will reflect salient interaction behaviors between the participant and their chosen device."

L'Art: Law Student Art Exhibition at Boston University School of Law

1 comment:

BU School of Law's Art Law Society put on an exhibition that opened yesterday and will be on display through today (BU law school tower, Barrister's Hall on the first floor). Here are pictures of the opening reception, which was great. I was really impressed with the quality of the art and the turnout. These pictures are from my cellphone, so they are not the best quality---I will try to post some better pictures if I get any. I showed "The Gift," "Small Bird," and "Dots."

Kirsty Hall: The Diary Project

Kirsty Hall: The Diary Project

do you remember this artist - Kirsty Hall? her Diary Project it's awesome - one year of drawings on envelopes everyday that she mailed to herself. Each envelope contains something. "When these envelopes return to me they will be kept unopened until they can be exhibited as a whole artwork. Members of the public will then be able to open the letters and investigate the contents. Once the letters have been opened, the contents will be displayed on the Diary Project blog."
