Inspiration: John Tenniel

I am doing some sketches for new work based on pen and ink illustrations (similar to the Little Red Riding Hood painting I did in college). I am looking at some Aesop fables, and I am also reviewing some color theory basics (good resource colormatters.com )

I am particularly inspired by John Tenniel's illustrations for the original Alice in Wonderland.

  1. these are awesome - I love all the cross hatching. I also impressed with all the detail and how cool they look in just black and white.
I'm really excited to see your illustration portfolio when it's ready.
by the way, that little red riding hood painting you did was great and mom has mentioned a few times "I can't believe he gave that away" - I think she wanted it.

  2. I donated it to a charity auction...I didn't just give it away to someone on the street.

  5. Colin's little red riding hood piece is one of my favorites. I definitely like the fable-based pieces you're working on - good idea.

P.S. I too am still upset you gave that painting away
